Long-haul
fiber build
Downtown Pittsburgh, PA
Project Objective
Manage the successful deployment of critical long-haul fiber infrastructure through downtown Pittsburgh by providing underground construction, fiber cable placement, and splicing services for Zayo.
The project required navigating complex urban conditions, river crossings, and multi-stakeholder coordination requirements.
Challenge
The project involved several key challenges, including:
- Congested underground utilities
- High-traffic construction zones
- Complex permitting requirements
- Tight coordination and scheduling demands
- River crossing infrastructure
- Minimal disruption delivery
Success required flexibility, coordination, and efficient field execution.
SOLUTION
Vytal managed the project through:
- Underground construction
- Fiber cable placement
- Fiber splicing support
- Coordination between field teams and stakeholders
- Ongoing communication across engineering, permitting, and construction
Vytal worked closely with the broader project team to maintain alignment and project momentum.
Outcome
Vytal helped advance a critical long-haul fiber route through one of Pittsburgh’s most challenging urban environments.
The project highlights the importance of coordinated infrastructure delivery as demand for AI, cloud, and next-generation connectivity continues to grow.
Project Objective
For this project, Vytal Digital Infrastructure partnered with Zayo to support the underground construction, cable placement, and fiber splicing required to bring critical long-haul infrastructure into downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania — including crossings beneath the Ohio and Allegheny Rivers.
The project required close coordination across engineering, permitting, construction, and field operations to maintain momentum in a dense urban environment with significant logistical and infrastructure challenges.
SOLUTION
Leveraged local expertise and innovative design principles to create a robust network blueprint, ensuring seamless implementation and scalability.
Consequently, Vytal identified and secured a joint build opportunity that saved our client approximately $6M.
